They opened trade routes throughout Asia and developed extensive trading relationships with the Middle East and the Orient, including India and China. “From the influences of ancient Greek, Roman, Persian, and Byzantine eras to the Ottoman empire, a rich culture developed around the Bosporus over millennia, with creative influences stemming from both Eastern and Western civilizations,” says Lal. Drawing notes from the history of the Bosporus strait-a 31-km waterway that connects the Black Sea to the Sea of Marmara-creative director Anita Lal and her team have introduced a series of handcrafted objects that belong to a fantastical space perched between the East and the West, which echoes with the memories of hidden gardens in China and the grandeur of the Ottoman empire. This idea of an imagined land and secret gardens that only exist in our imaginations, and yet feel impossibly real, is central to the Bosporus collection.
